Polymer Clay Cemetery Clock

If Heather lived anywhere but New Orleans, some might consider her obsession with cemeteries a bit frightening. But living in a city where tombstones are legend, her polymer clay grave clocks are far from alarming.

Materials:

Sculpey oven-bake clay
design and card for stencil
utility knife
rolling pin
acrylic or watercolor paint
paint brush
clock movement kit
drill

1. Make a stencil from a drawing of a tomb, house, or whatever you want to make (figure A).

2. Cut out stencil and place on rolled-out sheet of clay. Cut around stencil (figure B).

3. Roll out thinner sheet of clay to create pillars, doors and architectural details, with sharp point score to create edges, inscriptions etc. Add these elements to the final piece (figure C).

4. Bake in oven according to package instructions.

5. Paint as desired (figure D).

6. Drill hole where appropriate (figure E) and insert clock mechanism according to package instructions.
