Carol Duvall Show guest Judith Baker Montano stitches embroidery thread and silk ribbon over natural designs to create a one-of-a-kind tie to give dad for Father's Day. These unique embellishing techniques can add a special touch to any solid color tie.

Materials

solid color tie
three 1 yard lengths of silk in complimentary colors
variety of silk embroidery floss and variegated metallic thread
sharp scissors, embroidery needles, chenille needles, tapestry needles
6" embroidery hoop
white pencil

Steps

  1. Trace a design onto the tie using a white pencil.
  2. Embroider running stitch using metallic thread if stitching the seaweed design.
  3. Embroider feather stitching and chain stitching next in either design.
  4. Add ruched silk ribbon line if stitching the seaweed design.
  5. Add silk spider web roses to seaweed design and lazy daisy leaves to either design.
