Halloween Folk Art

Collectible Treasures : Episode COL-1201 -- More Projects »
Collector: Mark B. Ledenbach

Details:

  • Halloween art by Matthew Kirscht and Michael Bonfiglio, who work under the name Shiverbones. Their pieces range in value from $90 to $200, depending on the craftsmanship, and are all hand-sculpted papier mâché--a technique that is difficult to reproduce.
  • Ledenbach's favorite folk art piece is by pre-eminent woodcarver Thomas Sparks. This Noah's Ark piece with a Halloween twist is valued at $1,000.
  • Also by Sparks is a wooden witch made in 1996 entitled Hush We'll Fix It. It is hand-signed and valued at $300.
  • Two dolls sculpted by Christine Giambone. The dolls head turns around to reveal a scary face.
  • The "Vegetable Guys," as Ledenbach likes to call them, were created by Ginny Betourne, who focuses on harvest rather than the usual Halloween images such as witches and black cats.
